| Two Weeks in Mandates: New briefs at Northumberland and Lothian |

The pension fund of the Northumberland County Council has awarded Morgan Stanley Investment Management a £500 000 mandate in private equity fund of funds. The objective will be to outperform a public equity index by 6% per annum over the life of the portfolio. It has also selected European Credit Management Ltd. for a £250 000 mandate in fixed income. The £2.4bn Lothian Pension Fund has hired currency specialist managers AG Bisset and Record Currency Management, as well as JP Morgan Asset Management for the management of an active overlay programme that will cover £800m in the pension's assets. Those managers will apply both an active and a passive overlay on the pension's exposure to currencies. Upon the completion of its investment management review, the £1.1bn Dorset County Council Pension Scheme has appointed seven new managers. They are: Janus and TWC (Société Générale) AM (US equities), Framlington, JP Morgan and Standard Life (UK equities), Schroders (UK small cap), HarbourVest and Standard Life Investments for Private Equity. The £730m Flintshire County Council Clwyd Pension Fund has selected Wellington Management for a £25m mandate in emerging market equities. The €7.5bn Dutch travel and transport industry scheme Stichting Bedrijfstakpensioenfonds voor het Beroepsvervoer over de weg has appointed Northern Trust as its global custodian. As such, the financial services group will be responsible for the compliance monitoring, the performance measurement, commission recapture, as well as the securities lending operations of the scheme. Finally, Iceland's €180m Vesturlands Lifeyrissjodur has hired Morgan Stanley for a €2m private equity mandate. |
